When thinking about summer, one thing that comes to mind is drinking ice-cold lemonade, preferably on an airy porch or beside a pool or lake. Many of us grew up having lemonade stands in the summer trying to fill up our piggybanks. Others simply remember feeling nothing was better than a cold lemonade on a hot, summer day. As the summer and its heat continue, we have pulled together a few summer lemonade recipes to help you beat the heat.
Classic Lemonade
For those of you wanting to have classic lemonade, all you need is one-half of a cup of sugar, one cup of fresh lemon juice and water. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring it to a boil. Be sure to stir it occasionally. Once the sugar is dissolved, let it cool. Then, combine the syrup with the lemon juice and two-and-a-half to three cups of water into a pitcher. Finally, pour your lemonade into cups with ice and enjoy!
Tropical Lemonade
This recipe gives your lemonade more flavor and a tropical kick. To make, put one-and-a-half cups of freshly squeezed lemon juice, one-half of a cup of sugar and one cup of water into a large pitcher. Stir this until the sugar dissolves. Next, add five more cups of water, two six-ounce cans of pineapple juice, one 12-ounce can of apricot nectar, two 12-ounce cans of ginger ale, a few slices of lemon to garnish and plenty of ice. Finally, stir the pitcher, serve and enjoy your tropical lemonade drink!
Strawberry-Thyme Lemonade
To give your classic strawberry lemonade a twist you will love, consider using this recipe that adds thyme. To make, you will need one cup of sugar, eight sprigs of fresh thyme, one quart of hulled and sliced strawberries and one-and-a-half cups of fresh lemon juice. First, combine the sugar, thyme and one cup of water in a small pot. Bring it to a boil and stir. Once the sugar is dissolved, let it cool and discard the thyme. Next, combine the thyme syrup with the strawberries, lemon juice and five cups of cold water into a large pitcher. After letting it chill, serve over ice and garnish the drink with more thyme. After trying this, you will never want strawberry lemonade any different!
