Fourth of July is a day for celebrating America and our freedom with family and friends. From fireworks to parades, residents of Cobb County homes have plenty of opportunities to celebrate the red, white and blue this Thursday. Since the forecast is calling for heavy rain this week, be sure to check the status of these and any other outdoor events before you head out.
If you are still trying to make plans for Thursday, here is your guide to some of the most popular Cobb County celebrations:
Marietta
- Each year, the City of Marietta hosts a day-long festival that kicks off with a parade at 10 a.m. Visitors are invited to line the streets as more than 2,000 participants travel from Roswell Street Baptist Church to North Marietta Parkway. Following the parade, individuals can enjoy a long list of activities including a concert by Scott Thompson at noon, a bell ringing ceremony at 2 p.m., Greg Bates concert at 8 p.m. and a spectacular fireworks display at dark. Additionally, the festival will feature an arts and craft show, delicious food and carnival games.
- For those looking to celebrate Independence Day while supporting a good cause, stop by the Red, White and Big Blue celebration hosted by the Marietta Schools Foundation. Held at Northcutt Stadium, this event will begin at 6 p.m. with live music, Williamson Bros. BBQ, Rita’s Ice, fun houses and one of the best views of the Marietta fireworks display. Admission is $3 and BBQ is $6 per plate with proceeds from the event benefitting Marietta Schools Foundation’s Mentoring for Leadership program.
Acworth
- Residents of Cobb County homes in Acworth will want to check out the Fourth of July celebration at Cauble Park. Live music will begin at 5 p.m. with the Paul Hand Band and the headliners, “FLASHBACK,” will take the stage at 7 p.m. Fireworks are expected to begin at 9:30 p.m. Admission to this celebration is free, but attendees looking to enjoy the concert from a better seat can purchase tables of six for $50 (City of Acworth residents) and $70 for non-residents. Table packages include a parking pass for front row parking at Cauble Park. Shuttle service will be available for those without a parking pass. For more information, call 770-917-1234.
Powder Springs
- The City of Powder Springs will host their 18th Annual Independence Day celebration this Thursday on the Town Square. This family-fun event will begin at 4:00 p.m. and features live music, great food, a variety of children’s activities and a fantastic fireworks show that is scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring their chairs and blankets or reserve a VIP table.
