Traton Homes recently announced the grand opening of the model home at Village Walk in Smyrna and with its bold use of color and upscale finishes, it is stunning. To design a model home that wows at every turn, Traton Homes teamed up with Studio 5 Interiors. Laura Dudley, President of Studio 5 Interiors, shares her perspective on the design elements used to create this spectacular model home.
Tell us about the color scheme used in this beautiful model home. – The monochromatic color base of modern greys allow pops of true red and chartreuse greens to dominate the interiors without overwhelming the senses, creating a modern, yet timeless appeal. The eclectic mix of classic contemporary style furniture and traditional millwork blend beautifully with these colors.
How does the mix of elements in the furnishings bring out the personality of this model home?- Mixing different elements in the furniture and details of the home allows your eye to travel through each room with a level of the unexpected, sparking interest to see what is next. For example, two blocks of naturally beautiful wood are used as cocktail tables while mixed with modern upholstery, chrome accents and espresso casegoods. This mix of elements is not restricted to just the furnishings. Split faced stone is used on the fireplace wall and is continued into the dining room. By continuing the same element in the two spaces it creates a unity of space while the furnishing delineate each space with its own individual personality.
The entry of this home feels very modern but welcoming. How did you create that feel? Traditional judges paneling is modernized by using flat stock and applied throughout the entry, stairwell and living room wall. Semi-gloss white paint highlights the square paneling and continues the welcoming detail from the entry upstairs into the home.
The kitchen in this townhome is so spacious! Tell us more about the design of this space. – The kitchen is open to the living and dining rooms, creating the perfect floorplan for entertaining or enjoying an evening in front of the TV. Espresso cabinets blend with the modern styling of the classic furnishings and the introduction of green glass tile adds a powerful yet simple element to the entire living space. Stainless steel appliances add the finishing touch to blend the chrome and classic style.
There are a lot of unexpected elements in this model. – Yes, there are! Glass tile is used throughout the model as yet another element of the unexpected. In the powder room glass mosaic tile is used on an entire wall. In the master bath shower, glass tile is blended with porcelain tile to enhance the size of the walk-in shower.
Tell us about the contrast in the bedrooms in this model home. – Each bedroom takes on an individual style all its own. In the Master, sophisticated and calming monochromatic shades of silvers and greys are highlighted with reds. Rich dark cherry wood furniture is blended with a modern chrome headboard styled with Picasso in mind! The result is a soothing and relaxing room that is anything but boring!
The second Master is a direct contrast from the relaxing atmosphere of the Master Suite. Bright chartreuse green, white and dark grays are blended in an exciting leaf motif fabric. These same colors are continued on an accent wall as a bold stripe. The unexpected isn’t forgotten in this room either as pops of red are introduced to accentuate the greens. Simple espresso furnishings are used to calm the blast of colors. With this unique blend of color and simple furniture, this room has excitement, movement and energy, yet is not overwhelming.
The art in this model is so unique and impactful – tell us how the artwork enhances the look and feel. – Art is the finishing touch that blends each individual design element together to create a beautiful and uniquely designed space. The Artwork selected for each room is yet another element used to provide consistency and continuity to the overall visual impact of this home. Each space is highlighted with wall décor that is eye stopping! Beautiful modern and moving canvas’ of greens, red, blues and yellows adds life and energy to each room. As you move through the home a distinct sense of personality is apparent by the compliment of the artwork.
