Ah, Memorial Day weekend. The weather is warm, many pools and water parks are now open, children are out of school and many adults get to enjoy an extra day off of work.
While you are enjoying your day off, be sure to remember the men and women serving here and abroad as well as the veterans whose years of service helped keep America safe. There are several celebrations around the metro Atlanta area that celebrate and honor our service men and women.
Marietta National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony
For the past 63 Memorial Days at noon, countless visitors flock to the cemetery, located just off Roswell Street near the Marietta Square for a moving ceremony. Visitors will experience patriotic music, the posting of the colors and a gun salute among the headstones of our nation’s heroes.
Roswell Remembers
The city of Roswell boasts one of the largest Memorial Day celebrations in the state of Georgia. The non-political, non-commercial ceremony honors veterans and their sacrifices to maintain our freedom. A full day of remembrance starts at 10 a.m. at City Hall.
Smyrna’s 20th Century Veterans Memorial
Smyrna is honoring veterans at a special service that begins promptly at 10 a.m. at the memorial. Former veterans will speak to the crowd, and after guests will enjoy patriotic music and displays of military hardware.
These are just a few examples of the area’s events to honor our military. Do you plan on attending any Memorial Day celebrations?
