School’s almost out and the temperature outside is rising, which can only mean one thing: Summer is about to take over Atlanta. To make sure your vacation starts off on the right foot, why not make some fun plans for Memorial Day weekend? There is an event for every family, with celebrations near your Atlanta or Cobb County luxury homes. Just take some time to find which one suits you best.
For the music lovers in the area, the 35th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival may be calling your name. Starting on Saturday, May 26 in Piedmont Park, come out and enjoy a day packed full of performers including Kathleen Bertrand, the Lionel Loueke Trio and the Grace Kelly Quintet. The festival is free and provides a great, picturesque setting for a lunch or dinner picnic.
For families with children, you might consider a day at Stone Mountain Park. From Saturday to Monday on Memorial Day weekend, the park is offering fun-filled activities including the all new Geyser Towers, adventure courses, mini-golf, the Laser show Spectacular and, to top it all off, a special fireworks finale all three nights. The park is also offering active and retired military personnel a free Adventure Pass with a valid ID, as well as other discounts for immediate family members.
If you are interested in history and learning about why we celebrate Memorial Day, then your top choice might be to spend an afternoon at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. They are offering a wide range of events all day Monday, May 28. This includes an artillery demonstration, a display of veteran’s uniforms and the Kennesaw Mountain High School NJROTC drill team. All events are free and truly provide a great look into American war history.
And, of course, water lovers should plan a trip to the lake. Whether you have a boat or want to rent one for the day, the lake is a great place to spend Memorial Day. Lake Allatoona and Lake Acworth are located in Cobb County or you can head over to Lake Lanier in Buford. Lake Lanier has a full Memorial Day events schedule starting Friday, May 25, and there will be a fireworks display on Sunday night.
